Clarkson lineage

The Clarkson paternal line

Seven generations, from a man who appears in the Dutch records only as a name to the present day. This site shows what each link in that chain actually rests on — which records, which archive, and where the chain still has nothing underneath it.

Everything here is generated from two things: the family tree file (pascal_clarkson_cleaned.ged) and the archive scans sitting beside it. Nothing is typed in by hand. If a claim has a record behind it, you can click through to the record and the image. If it does not, the page says so.

The chain, link by link

What was settled, and what was not

Settled by record

  • Generation 3 to 4. The marriage of Herman François Clarkson and Josina Elizabeth van den Bos — long looked for in Den Helder — turned out to be inRotterdam, 16 July 1907, and it names his parents.
  • Generation 1 to 2. Proven twice over: the 1837 Vlissingen marriage and the 1876 Bergen op Zoom death both name Robert (Rolston) Clarkson and Catharina (Maria) Salomons.
  • Generation 2 to 3. The 1853 Vlissingen birth record, read from the scan.
  • Henriëtte Helen's birthplace. Meester Cornelis, not Willem I, on three independent records.

Still missing or disputed

  • Abraham Clarkson's death, 1882. No record anywhere, in Breda or elsewhere.
  • François David's death, 1908. Simon's Town or Liège; nothing decides it.
  • Hermine van Ede van der Pals. Named in four records, but no birth, marriage or death of her own.
  • Robert Rolston Clarkson himself. Proven as a father, but a name and nothing more.
  • Generations 5 to 7. Indies and modern records, outside what has been searched.
